Resumo
O envelhecimento populacional tem conduzido a um aumento significativo das síndromes geriátricas, entre as quais se destaca a síndrome de fragilidade, condição associada a maior vulnerabilidade fisiológica, declínio funcional e risco de eventos adversos de saúde. Neste contexto, a nutrição assume um papel fundamental na prevenção da fragilidade, particularmente através da manutenção da massa muscular, da prevenção da desnutrição e da promoção de comportamentos alimentares adequados. O presente artigo teve como objetivo analisar a relação entre literacia alimentar e prevenção da síndrome de fragilidade em pessoas idosas. Para tal, foi realizada uma revisão narrativa da literatura científica, integrando estudos nas áreas da gerontologia, nutrição clínica e saúde pública, com o propósito de compreender de que forma as competências relacionadas com a gestão da alimentação podem influenciar o estado nutricional e a funcionalidade no envelhecimento. A análise da literatura evidencia que padrões alimentares inadequados, ingestão insuficiente de proteínas e micronutrientes e presença de desnutrição estão associados ao desenvolvimento de sarcopenia e fragilidade. Por outro lado, níveis mais elevados de literacia alimentar tendem a associar-se a melhores comportamentos alimentares, maior capacidade de planear e preparar refeições equilibradas e melhor adequação da dieta às necessidades do envelhecimento. Conclui-se que a promoção da literacia alimentar pode constituir uma estratégia relevante na prevenção da fragilidade, contribuindo para melhorar o estado nutricional, preservar a funcionalidade e promover um envelhecimento mais saudável.Referências
