Resumo
O aumento da longevidade tem sido frequentemente interpretado como sinónimo de progresso em saúde, embora a evidência científica mostre de forma consistente que viver mais anos não significa, necessariamente, viver esses anos com saúde, funcionalidade ou bem-estar. Este artigo apresenta uma scoping review com o objetivo de analisar criticamente o conceito de “anos com vida”, distinguindo-o explicitamente da longevidade cronológica e examinando como o envelhecer com saúde é conceptualizado, medido e promovido na literatura científica recente. A revisão foi conduzida de acordo com o enquadramento metodológico de Arksey e O’Malley e reportada segundo as diretrizes PRISMA-ScR, com base no acrónimo PCC, incluindo pessoas com 50 anos ou mais e estudos desenvolvidos em contextos de saúde pública, clínica e comunitária. Foram realizadas pesquisas sistemáticas em cinco bases de dados internacionais, resultando na inclusão de 16 estudos publicados na última década. Os resultados evidenciam uma dissociação persistente entre longevidade e envelhecimento com saúde, demonstrando que o aumento da esperança de vida tem sido frequentemente acompanhado por mais anos vividos com incapacidade e limitação funcional. A literatura analisada destaca a centralidade da capacidade intrínseca, da funcionalidade e do ritmo de envelhecimento como determinantes dos “anos com vida”, bem como o papel dos fatores modificáveis ao longo do curso de vida. As evidências indicam ainda que, apesar do conhecimento consolidado sobre os processos biológicos e funcionais do envelhecimento, persiste um défice de intervenções individuais, comunitárias e políticas orientadas para a promoção efetiva dos “anos com vida”, reforçando a necessidade de reorientar estratégias de envelhecimento saudável para além da longevidade.Referências
